playit 0.17.1 is a cross-platform network utility developed by Developed Methods LLC that eliminates the traditional requirement for router port-forwarding when hosting private game servers. The application establishes a persistent outbound tunnel to the publisher’s global Anycast Network, allocates a static public IP address and port, and then proxies inbound player traffic directly to the user’s locally running game instance. Because the connection originates from inside the home network, firewall rules that normally block unsolicited traffic are bypassed, letting Minecraft, Terraria, Valheim, Counter-Strike, or any UDP/TCP-based title accept worldwide connections without manual router configuration. Twenty incremental versions have been released since the project’s debut, each refining tunnel throughput, latency failover, and multi-region routing; the current 0.17.1 build adds improved IPv6 handling and automatic client updates. Typical use cases include friends sharing a survival world after school, esports teams scrimmaging on a privately modded server, or developers testing multiplayer code on real networks before cloud deployment. The lightweight agent runs unobtrusively on Windows, forwards only the ports the user selects, and exposes an optional Web dashboard for real-time connection logs. playit is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources (e.g. winget), always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
